song ever.....
it's not very often i find a song that makes it into my seasonal "randomly delicious" mixes for more than one season.... this one found its way there in summer 2008 and is still going strong. Funny thing is I really can't listen to any of their other songs, just a bit too mellow for me. But this one, well i love it :)
So that's it for today, I just finished up Tanner's bear suit for Halloween tonight.... original, right? Yeah, I'm saving my originality in the costume department for when he can actually go out and trick or treat. This year we're just pushing him around in the stroller and collecting candy on his behalf.... OK i'm totally kidding on that one! This subject has come up numerous times with different friends, about seeing parents bringing around their newborn baby trick or treating and collecting candy. I get a total kick out of that. No, we'll be saving the trick or treating till he can walk and we feel OK with him receiving mass amounts of candy :) Tonight we'll just be showing him off to the grandparents so they can get their "oooos" and "awwwwwsss" in.
Anyways, I'm feeling in a kind of funny mood. Now I'm off to make up a bunch of fabric headbands for the boutique Dava I consign at here in CT.... tis the season to start stocking up my holiday stuff for Dava, especially since the sewing studio will probably be down for a good couple weeks when we move into the new house.
Happy Halloween, BWAHHHAHHHHAHHHA!

getting things done

After only two months (note the sarcasm here) I've finally updated my boutique with my summer stock leftover from the festival season. WEll ok, about half of the stock. I still have a bunch of cute little toddler skirts and a couple more dresses to get onto the site, but I'm making progress!
Life has been busy lately. Aside from the obvious of being a new mom, I've also gone back to fieldwork at the dayjob, which means I'm working slightly more hours. But it's great to get out of the office, I'm so not an office kind of gal, hence going to school for earth science :) I've also been working on some custom orders, like this Hemp/organic cotton stretch jersey Easy Rider skirt (a custom spin on the made to order Easy Rider skirt on my etsy shop) I got my inspiration for the tree applique from an Ansel Adams photograph. Kind of a late Gypsy Road challenge (inspiration vs replication) rolled up in a custom order.

And the busyness I'm most excited about........

We just bought a house!!!! Well 98% bought it, we're still waiting on the "official" mortgage papers to go through, but the bank says we're in really good shape. Since August we've been searching high and low for our "perfect" first house, put bids on three different ones, and unfortunately didn't get them. This was actually our "backup" house, in case October came and we still didn't find anything. We just adore the house itself, a charming Craftsman Bungalow with lots of charm, but the yard is just not for us. We love to be outdoors so having a big yard is important to us, especially with our dog and now Tanner. So this will be the first step in home-ownership for us, but we're definitely psyched for a place to call our own and get out of this tiny second floor rental. So as long as nothing goes wrong with the mortgage, we'll be in our new house at the very end of November, yahooooo!
And with buying a home comes lots of my time going into daydreaming about paint colors, kitchen remodels, being able to finally set up a nursery/bedroom for the babe..... and making furniture. yep, add that one to my list of crafts, hehe :) It's not definite yet, but Pat and I have been talking about buying a family Christmas present this year, some wood working tools. We have chatting about making our own furniture and now that we'll have a nice big workspace (the house has a big two car garage) we might be able to make that a reality. Fun fun!

keeping the circle going
So the week before last I went on a bit of a shopping spree. For months now I've been doing short browsings through etsy each morning, drooling over all of the eye candy but knowing I wasn't in the position to be buying stuff. But last week we had a bit of extra cash and I also had a few gifts I needed to buy, so I jumped at the chance to keep the cirlce going, supporting my fellow handcrafters. Tanner is napping right now and I still need to get showered (as it's almost hitting noon) so I'm keeping this brief with pictures and links. Everything I ordered I loved and is high quality.

Some prints for around the house- she was offering a buy one get one free so I ordered the lady with the birds and chose the bicycle print free. by pleasebestill
Well I have a few more to show but Tanner is calling.... so much for jumping into the shower while he naps :) I'll be back to share the others!
Knit hat for Tanner out of some super yummy yarns by SoWhatBabyButt

Super cute letterpress print for Tanner's new room, a little reminder to DREAM BIG. OK and to satisfy my love affair with letterpress- one of the top things on my list of "what I need to learn". by rollandtumblepress
