work in progress
i have a confession. i've become completely obsessed with thrift store wool and cashmere sweaters. like, as in i can't walk into a thrift store without coming out with atleast 2 (i won't mention the most i've come out with). the thought of strolling through the sweater aisles, hands automatically picking out every woolen item they come in contact with, just tickles my senses senseless. i'd say about a third of them end up in my own wardrobe, but the other two-thirds.... well they become candidates for felting, longies, little sweaters, toddler-hand-sized animals.... although i must admit, i have many sweaters that have gone into queue- with the pile of in limbo sweaters growing increasingly larger than the pile of crafted projects from the sweaters.
so the other week i dived in and started making some good use out of them. i drafted up patterns for diaper covers to my liking and starting cutting into that gorgeous wool. i have some tweaking to do with the leg gussets, but now i have a few beautiful woolen covers added to my cloth diaper stash. the rest of the beauties are waiting to be finished once the pattern tweaking is complete, and i'll be offering them up for sale in the near future. you know, to fund that above obsession :)
in other news, we're having a streak of the most beautiful, warm weather here in connecticut. we've been soaking up every last minute of that beautiful warm sunshine. i made it. i made it through another winter with sanity still intact. hallelujah!

So funny! I swear we're kindred spirits (can you tell such things online?). I just finished sewing a wool diaper cover for my littlest! He's basically outgrown his baby ones. You look like you've made a lot more progress than me, though. I have one done, many to go...
don't let this picture fool you, those cut outs are still just that :) many, many yards of fold over elastic to go! i love seeing your little guy all decked out in the mama made woolens!
That is so funny. I still have so many thrift store sweaters that I felted (fulled) in the washing machine and now have stored in bins. I really need to do something with them. This is a great idea! My children aren't in diapers anymore, but still a wonderful use for them.
They look great, Heather! I'm going to try to make some shorties for the summer.
justine, i should make up some shorties for noah too.... move that wool right into summer haha :) ellen, i'm going to share a water bottle sling tutorial soon- with felted wool as the material. perhaps it will be a little motivation to bust out the felted bin!
